3 August – I Think I’m Making Japanese

Enjoy sushi, nigiri and shashimi? Have a yearning for Yakatori, Okonomiyaki or Shabu-shabu? Well, no promise you’ll get to taste any of the specialities but you will get to eat some fine Japanese food and learn a few cooking tricks of your own. Tonight you get to roll your own rolls and shush your own sushi, with some help from one of great local suppliers. Even the disasters are still likely to be yummy… and good for you!

 

10 August – Globe by Candlelight!

It has become obvious to us over all the years we have been running Globe Café international students are all romantics at heart. But really that’s irrelevant to Globe this week, because tonight because this is just a activities night, learning how to make beautiful scented candles for adding a little… je ne sais quoi… a little atmosphere to your studies. At least you’ll learn one practical skill while you’re at university in Australia! And of course there’s still a yummy meal to follow.

 

17 August – Chocolate Night!

Did you know chocolate is good for you? Well, maybe not. But it is indisputably the yummiest of foods, and versatile! There are 100s of wonderful ways to incorporate chocolate into your diet (did I say diet!) and tonight you’ll learn some great recipes for utilising this essential food group. You might get a little dirty, because this is a hands on cooking class.

 

24 August – Trivia Night!

How much do you know about this fair land its people, history, and eccentricities? Our Quizmaster will lead students in a discovery of many things Australian – BIG, small and – well – just plain strange! A great way to learn about the land of your studies. There’s more to Australian than Monash you know!

 

31 August – Dinner in an Australian Home

Feeling a bit homesick? Missing your family and friends? Here's a chance to meet some ordinary Australians and share a home-cooked meal. A good opportunity to practice your English and learn some more about this wonderful country. You're invited to dinner with a local family close to Monash Caulfield. Meet some other students. AND THE FOOD IS FREE!

 

7 September – It’s All Greek to Me!

Did you know that Melbourne has the world's third-largest Greek-speaking population after Athens and Thessaloniki? Yes its time to put on your best Toga for a night of Greek food and fun. We’ll start the night with a Greek cooking class, with lot’s of things to taste, and then you get to try a little Zorba. Its no myth that the Greeks know how to have a good time and this is one of our most popular nights. Prizes for the ‘Most Like a Greek God or Goddess’. Release your inner Hercules or Zena Warrrior Princess!

21 September – Mid-Autumn Moon Festival

Okay I know it’s not quite autumn in Victoria, but what day would it be if you just happened to run into someone putting pomelo rinds on their head? No? What day if you saw people collecting dandelion leaves and distributing them to their family? Still no? How about if you saw floating lanterns in the sky? Okay, I’ll make it easy for you, what day would it be if you saw a billion people sitting outside eating moon cakes? Yes, it must be time for a Mid-Autumn Harvest Moon Festival! Join millions in Asia in the biggest celebration of the year. Yes, the actual Festival may have been on 12 September but here's a chance to celebrate twice! There’s a feast of Chinese food to learn how to cook and share, and let’s see how cute you look with those rinds on your head!

Tonight is your night to show off some of your musical, creative, performance or… well just show us your talents? Maybe you’ll learn a few new tricks as well! Maybe you can just teach us how to better juggle studies and a social life, or just juggle itself. A night of shared fun and maybe a bit of frustration.

 

12 October – Bollywood Break-up!

Hey you made it! It’s the end of term - well nearly - and it's time to relax and celebrate, for one night at least! This Friday we celebrate the end of Semester and joy of exams with a hearty Final Feast, while learning some cool Bollywood moves! You’ll be nourished by good food and good company before the pressure is really on!
